I have 18 years' experience working in ecology - 16 of which have involved using GIS in both the public and voluntary sectors, and as a post-graduate student, volunteer and hobbyist.
As GIS Officer for Warwickshire Wildlife Trust I was responsible for the maintenance and development of the Trust's flagship Habitat Biodiversity Audit, which provides complete Phase 1 coverage for Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull. I introduced a number of key improvements to the data sets and methodologies.
I ran the trust's annual Phase 1 Habitat Survey, recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers, and updating the HBA. I devised a comprehensive survey methodology that could be usefully employed by volunteers with a range experience and skills. I had previously gained field experience in Phase 1 Habitat Survey with the Scottish Wildlife Trust in the Highlands.
My M.Sc. (Warwick) in Ecosystems Analysis and Governance included a project titled "Discrete spatial ecological models for geographical information systems". This involved creating detailed mathematical models and writing code to visualise spatial phenomena as GIS data.
